Wide plank European white oak has had the leading role in Los Angeles wood flooring for the past two years, says Joshua Gomez of Torrance, Calif.-based Design Tech Custom Flooring Inc. The trending boards range from 7–9½ inches and are most often chosen by interior designers. Gray colors and reactive stains are popular, and a majority of the flooring is prefinished. Gomez is an advocate for unfinished custom flooring, but he says it's undervalued in the L.A. market, where houses sell for millions and change hands frequently. "More prefinished, regardless of wide plank or not, is being favored because it's a quicker build," he says. "And out here in L.A., it's 'Get in and get out.'"
