Drywall: Not Just for Walls and Ceilings Anymore

Wayne Lee Headshot

Sorry I did not write last night; was out doing estimates until 9 p.m. That is one more task that makes the work day a long day. Being a small company-doing the work selling jobs, ordering product and the everyday stuff-makes for a tough few days a week. It is not every day, so I am okay with it, and the truth that it is some drive time to just gather myself and relax.

Now on to a "need to hit someone" task...we are still working on getting all the pressboard up so we can install new ply and then get to laying the flooring. This home has four layers of flooring in the kitchen area: ¼-inch pressboard, old and very ugly sheet goods, one more layer of 1/4 ply and then the new (but not as ugly) sheet goods glued down tight as the bark on a tree. We had to take a roofing shovel to get this stuff up. Oh yeah, one more, let's see how silly we can be: In one area they must have run out of 1/4 ply, so to fill the gap there is 1/4 drywall nailed to the subfloor. Yes, I said drywall. Overall it was okay until we got to the kitchen, the upstairs and bedrooms came up easy, but the hall and main floor has been a J-O-B.

I am looking to get it done Thursday so we can install the new subfloor and start the install of the flooring. Now this is cool: the oldest son wants to help nail down the flooring in his bedroom. He is 9 and just loves to use his hands. The sad thing is his daddy passed and he enjoyed working with his daddy. They made bird houses together and they worked around the farm a lot. I am truly looking forward to the install, we are going to do it on a Saturday so he will not miss school and his mom and granddaddy can watch. Nash is his name and he is a fine young man doing all he can to be all he can in a tough time in life. Keep him in your heart and prayers from time to time.

Well, I have to get up early and go to Milan, Tenn., to look at two homes. It is about a 45-minute drive, so me and Mr. Coffee will be hand and cup as we travel.
