Getting Ready for a 1902 House

Wayne Lee Headshot

Let the snow stop! We have 4 more inches on the ground and it is enough; the mid-South should not have this much snow.

I am working on a 750-foot job alone and it just seems like I cannot get a thing done because my phone will ring. On the other job we have going (the tile job) it just seems like they make more change orders faster then we can get it done. Jeff is trying to get it installed before they change the plans again. Joey is sick and out for a few days ... the good times are rolling.

We got the okay on the old house I bid 3 weeks back. It is a 1902 home and yes, it is all lead, so we cannot start the job because I did not get the class in yet. I go Friday the 4th for the lead certification class. Then I have to order the HEPA filters for my units. I spoke to AJ with Clarke American Sanders Monday about getting the correct numbers so I can get them from our dealer. I am still not looking forward to sitting all day, then taking a test! Not my thing.

Once we start the job it will be a simple sand and finish. The only tough spot is a repair in a doorway, we will have to work around the old base, shoe and door case. They do not want to take it off because they think it will split the wood trying to get it off. This is an old home with a ton of features that are so true to the home's date; it is so cool. I am trying to get them to go wax to keep the look like it was, but the GC thinks poly is what was on it. I will show him the way, LOL, but it is in his hands.

I should get the 750 foot job done this week and then start the next one: a repair and resand of a water-damaged floor. There are way too many broken pipes in this winter wonderland. Like I said, stop the snow and let's get the real temp around here. I can handle 98 with 90% RH, but man, I cannot handle cold. I look like the kid from A Christmas Story, you know the movie where his mom tells him you'll shoot your eye out? Well, his brother has on so much stuff to keep warm that he cannot walk or bend-that is me.
