I Had an Amazing Week

Wayne Lee Headshot

Wow, what a week. I did not post anything this week because the two jobs I did this week were an hour's drive away. One job was in Parson, Tenn., and then one was in Almo, Ky.-from state to state, but you've got to cut hay when the sun shines. I've got to share both jobs with you; I've never had a week like this and wish every week went like this...

My job in Parson was a 2¼ factory-finish install, and Joey was out all week with the flu. The homeowners are the nicest folks I ever worked for. She made dinner (that's what I call lunch) every day. She was a nurse before she retired and was telling me how to keep my sugar under control while I work (I'm diabetic). He would clean up every day and wanted to help me do the job. He was a teacher before he retired and a land surveyor for many years. They have a guy living with them to help around the farm, and he worked laying tile before he moved to Tennessee to help them. Well, he was a super nice guy; he said he would help me do the install. Now comes the GREAT part...at the end of the week he told me that he will not need the money I was going to pay him; he wants me to take it and place it in the offering plate at my church to feed the needy around Paris. Folks, that is paying it forward!  I will put it in the Christmas basket fund, since my church gives food baskets to folks that need help. Three days' pay, just like that, he did not want to take the money for himself.

The sand and finish job in Almo, Ky., went so great that I was thinking, "What did I miss or not do?" The lady came to look at the job a few times. This was a rental home they had and they were in a debate over carpet or re-sand. Well, I got the job; it was old wax finish with a ton-and I do mean a ton-of chatter from a rental sander. The floors were sanded back in 1965 with a rental sander; the owners hated it so bad that they had put carpet on it. Well, long story short: four cuts with the big machine and three cuts with the edger, and it looks great. She could not stop telling me how great it looks and how happy we were the ones doing the work. She was just happy! It is so nice to work for folks that do not beat you up or try to find a problem so you will give them a few bucks off.

Thanksgiving was great for me because I went to church and helped give out 400 meals to families around our town...I helped from 9 to 2 and was so thankful that we could help, but most of all that God has blessed my family. It is so wonderful to help folks and see the joy that a simple meal can bring. A week of Thanksgiving that blessed me for more than I could have asked; what a week!
