It Has Been a Rough Week

Wayne Lee Headshot

Where do I start? This has been a tough week, Monday was a snow day for us, 6 inches of the heavy, wet snow. I had to stop working to get my youngest home safe; the roads were very slippery and she was smart to stop and wait for me to get her home. I let her drive my Dodge in 4-WD while I drove her Jeep from one side of the road to the next. Then my oldest drove home from Murray, Ky.,; that trip was a 40-minute drive that took 2 hours. So she parked her car in Paris and let Dad take her the rest of the way home. All this came about in a hurry-I was in Jackson, Tenn., looking at a floor when the snow started; by the time I made it back to town we had 3 inches and by the end of the day we had six.

On to Tuesday: We were now behind on the Monday job, and we told the homeowner that we would be done Thursday, and I had to take a shipment to Dresden, Tenn., for a friend. I made a demo floor for them to take to the ARA show. That was a fun thing to do: I used all leftovers from jobs. It helped them and got a fair amount of wood from the shop. I got to the job about 10 a.m. with 300 feet of 1½ to nail up. Joey and I went to town on the wood; when you work that hard and look back to only see a few rows nailed down, it is sad. 1½ takes forever to nail down, but it looks great when it is done. Well, we nailed down and got the sealer and first coat on Wednesday and the final coat today. Thank God for quick dry sealers, because we can two-coat in one day.

I spoke with a friend today in Ohio-Joel with North Coast-he had a few questions and we just talked for a bit. It is great to talk to friends from my traveling days...also spoke with Brian with Knight Flooring.

I went to the tile job that Jeff has been working on. It is just a pain at times. The drywall crew did a poor job, so we are trying to flatten the walls so the tile looks good, but what a task. The walls look like a wave from one end to the next. Jeff is not having fun, so we are going to work with him Friday to have a little fun and get some work done. I am going to start working on the maple floor upstairs; my hope is to get the rough cut and medium cut done so we can start the multi-disc sanding, then finish up Monday. I am looking forward to putting in the ear radio and just sanding floors.

Joey is going to help Jeff with his cuts and make sure we get the walls going and then lay the floor in the master bath; 18x18 on a 45 in a small area is a pain ... no other way to say it, small rooms do not need big tile!

Well, I am off to rest and get my head around nothing for the rest of the night; be safe and stay warm.
