Maintenance for the Government Mule

Wayne Lee Headshot

Monday and back on the road again... I was asked to help Clarke American Sanders do a sales training class. My old boss and friend A.J. called and asked if I would help … It is an honor to be asked and with great pride, I am ready to share my enjoyment for sanding floors and most of all my history with Clarke. Twenty-four years of history is not easy to forget and to be asked to share it, well, that is just a gift that I always am willing to open to all. It is hard at times to not say "Hello, I am Wayne with Clarke American Sanders," but that is the truth of it, and over time all good things must end.

I was asked if my skills for this class are better now that my past several years have been spent doing floors. The short and long of it is, yes. Why? Because the machines have to do more than just have selling features, they have to do the tough task at hand, day in and day out. Not one time can they say, "I need a rest." It is funny how we take the sanders in out of the truck work them like a government mule, then ride them to church on Sunday. That is why it is so important to keep up on the maintenance. Just once a month, go over the unit and give it a good review. We call it an "air bath"-blow the units out, look at the motor brushes, clean the wheels and just tend to what needs tending to. In the long run, it will save money.

Again, I need to thank Clarke for the confidence they are showing; it is a joy to talk about sanding machines and sanding floors. It is a good day when folks trust and honor you like that. I will do my best to share how it goes...it will seem funny when I will be at the class and say, "Hello, I am Wayne with Cardinal Hardwood & Tile..."
