Showing Builders the Facts

Wayne Lee Headshot

Well, the honey-do days went okay. I went on two estimates, so that took some time away. I did get a few needed things done for winter and not too soon, because it is very cold for the mid-South. We are getting temps in the single digits at night with a high of 22 during the daytime. Just too cold for me! I left the Midwest for better winters and someone is messing with the global warming thing ... LOL.

I had to order parts the back up big machine, why is it that when you need it, it goes down? The draw lever broke, so the upper roller was done. Got parts on order today so with any luck we will get them Tuesday via UPS. I still am so glad we can repair the units without the labor charge of a dealers pro shop. The NWFA has asked me to do a class at convention for contractors on how to do PM (preventive maintenance) and simple repairs. It is something that should help all of us and with luck I am saving funds for the trip.

We will be sanding 1,800 feet this week and the homeowner is killing us...she comes behind us and sets the temp to 60 each night no matter how many times we ask her to leave it alone. So we put tape on the thermostat and maybe she will leave it alone for the rest of the week. We like the temp around 70-74 so the finish will lay down nice and we do not have to watch the flooring move.

We found water under the house again and the builder says it is not going to matter ... guess what? The floor started to cup in the great room. That is the only place where the water was; so now he understands the need to keep the crawl space dry. The subfloor went from 9 to 14 in the great room; over the weekend they got a pump to remove the water and dry out the space...funny how it laid down when the water was removed and the air movement dropped the subfloor and floor back to 9 over the past few days. Builders just have to be shown the facts and then you have to prove to them that it all matters; maybe they are all from the Show Me state, Missouri.
