Due Care Training Now Available

Elizabeth Baldwin Headshot

The International Wood Products Association (IWPA), in conjunction with the World Resources Institute (WRI) is now offering the first part of what they hope will eventually be a series of educational opportunities in international compliance.

The due care training is a full-day program followed by a networking session. The classes are designed to help both those at the 101 level (to build a compliance program) and those who are more advanced (to fine-tune their systems).

Topics include a full mouthful of acronyms: SOP, PPQ, SDN, SLVK, FSC, APHIS, CARB, CITES and many more. If you use most of these in your day-to-day business, you should probably be taking this class. If you don’t recognize them (and don’t have anyone in your company that does!), you really should attend this class. And everyone should bookmark the Resource List for a great collection of useful links.

The class is a mix of lectures and practical exercises working with sample documentation and other resources. The material has been tailored to focus on the Lacey Act, but the concepts will help companies work within any legality program such as the EUTR or the ILP. For more information go here.

Classes are being offered coast to coast, from Carolina to California. Sign up now!

And what’s ahead? Over the next few years, the IWPA is looking to develop additional standalone modules on specific markets or other compliance issues. Right now, you get a CARB bonus by attending this year—all class participants will also receive a copy of the guidance document, the IWPA’s Formaldehyde Fact Sheet for Importers.
