No Reports to Write=Fun Week

Craig DeWitt Headshot

Last week was a fun one. Only a couple inspections, but it was productive and profitable, and there were no reports to write. The first one was about three hours away, and the major complaint was mold on the ceiling of two bathrooms. The floors were cupped, which generated the call in the first place, but the homeowner heard I could solve his bathroom mold problem, as well. I met the HVAC contractor at the house, and the first thing I noticed was how cold it was inside. I thought I was working with a heating and air conditioning contractor, not a refrigeration contractor. But the homeowner wanted it that cold. So we looked at the bathrooms, and got that problem addressed. Next we tackled the floors. They were 2¼-inch oak with very minor cupping. They were over a vented crawl space that was too humid. Now everyone is on track with solutions.

Then I drove another three hours, spent the night and met a doctor at his office early. The building had vinyl tile floors over a vented crawl space. The subflooring was badly rotten. He had already fixed the crawl space but wanted me to make sure it was right before he spent near $50,000 on replacing the subflooring and vinyl, and temporary relocation. This was actually a great one and I took lots of photos that will show up in future training classes.

Then I headed home, about five hours away. I had two checks in my pocket, and two happy customers. And no reports to write. Next week I fly to a job. Anyone try flying with a pile of tools lately? The rules seem to change every time I do this, so it will be an adventure.
