Canada Housing Starts Fall To Lowest Level Since September 2020

Housing starts in Canada declined 13% in January to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 215,365, according to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Total urban starts declined 16% and multi-unit urban starts fell 20%. It is the lowest level of housing starts since September 2020, according to CMHC.

Toronto and Vancouver housing starts fell 52% and 14%, respectively. Housing starts in Montreal increased 36%.
