Canada Housing Starts Rise 4.4 Percent in November

After four months of declines, Canadian housing starts had an unexpected 4.4 percent jump in November, growing to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 215,941 units, according to the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC).

Economists had predicted starts would drop to a rate of 198,000.

Groundbreaking on multiple unit urban homes in the country grew 4 percent from October, while single-detached urban starts jumped 8 percent.
