The Environmental Protection Agency published its final rule that extends compliance dates for its formaldehyde emissions standards in composite wood products.
Effective Oct. 25, the dates are: Dec. 12, 2018, for complying with emissions standards, recordkeeping and labeling; March 22, 2019, for complying with import certification; and March 22, 2024, for complying with laminated product producer provisions. The transition period for CARB third-party certifiers is March 22, 2019.
The rule requires compliance with the following emissions standards: hardwood plywood (including engineered wood flooring), 0.05 ppm; particleboard, 0.09 ppm; MDF, 0.11 ppm; and thin MDF, 0.13 ppm. Composite wood products within the standards will receive a TSCA Title VI compliant label as proof.
