Longtime wood flooring distributor and charter NWFA member Kelly-Goodwin Company (Seattle) closed its doors on Dec. 20, writing on its website that it was "forced to cease business at all of our locations."
The company was started by the Kelly and Goodwin families in 1927; it was purchased from Charlie and Frank Kelly in 1969 by the Pankratz family, which owned and expanded the company from one location in downtown Seattle to as many as seven locations.
The company was renowned for its customer service. "In simplest terms, Kelly-Goodwin was a good company consisting of honest, kind, loyal and worthwhile people who enjoyed very much what they brought to the hardwood flooring industry," said Greg Wagner, who was Kelly-Goodwin's sales manager and worked at the company for the last 31 years.
Kelly-Goodwin President John Pankratz Jr. had no comment at this time. "Thank you to all of our loyal customers of so many years," the company website says. "We will certainly miss you."
Earlier this year the company had five locations including its headquarters in Tukwila, Wash. Its Everett, Wash., branch closed in August, and the Spokane Valley, Wash.; Portland, Ore.; and Eugene, Ore., branches closed in early December. At the time of its closing the company had 22 employees.
