U.S. lumber prices have surged 178% since last spring, the National Association of Home Builders reports.
The spike has increased the average new single family home price by $24,386 since April 2020.
The average price of a multifamily home has increased by $8,998 due to the lumber price surge.
The prices for framing lumber reached $975 per thousand board feet in mid-February, a 178% increase compared with around $350 per thousand board feet in April 2020.
