Mafi announced it has become the first wood flooring manufacturer to earn Living Product Challenge (LPC) certification for the sustainability of its wood floors.
The LPC is administered by the Seattle-based non-profit International Living Future Institute, which awards the certification to companies that create products with “sustainable, natural and health-promoting properties,” according to Mafi.
The LPC certification label on the wood flooring provides product details including where it originates, what resources are extracted in its manufacturing, its lifespan and what materials can be salvaged at the end of its lifespan.
“The label also determines the water and energy consumption required for its production,” Mafi stated. “In addition, the amount of CO2 and waste generated during the product’s manufacturing are also evaluated.”
Mafi, which is based in Austria, said the majority of its wood flooring now carries the LPC certificate.
