Mullican Flooring (Johnson City, Tenn.) will bring the manufacture of all its sawn engineered products to the United States, beginning with its 7-inch-wide EuroSawn white oak, in early summer.
The move is part of the company’s effort, started in 2012, to broaden its domestic manufacturing footprint by bringing its engineered hardwood production abroad into the United Sates. The domestic sawn engineered production line is the first phase of a five-year expansion plan that will create 200 jobs at the company’s Johnson City plant.
“[We are looking at this change as part of our effort to improve efficiencies and long-term value within the company,” said President Neil Poland in a statement. “The move will allow us to tighten quality control as well as to stay true to a long-standing corporate commitment to support domestic production.”
Plans to transition additional overseas production to the U.S. will be announced in the third quarter, the company said.
Mullican also hired a digital marketing coordinator, Heather Burke.
Burke is responsible for creating, coordinating, executing and analyzing digital marketing campaigns with the express goal of increasing Mullican’s brand awareness. She will also oversee web analytics, app design and search engine optimization, as well as assist with digital projects and data-driven initiatives.
“Heather comes to Mullican with a deep background and a wealth of knowledge in digital marketing," Poland said. “Her strong communication and creative-thinking skills are matched by her enthusiasm for producing top content for our consumers and retailers. We are pleased to welcome her to our team, and look forward to increasing our digital presence across the hardwood flooring industry.”
