U.S. hardwood flooring imports increased 12% in March compared with February, but its sources for supplies shifted dramatically, as hardwood flooring imports from China plummeted 85%, the lowest level in 10 years, according to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).
Imports from Brazil declined 99% to the lowest level in three years, according to ITTO.
As imports from China and Brazil dropped, hardwood flooring imports from Malaysia and Indonesia surged, growing 64% and 145%, respectively.
U.S. hardwood flooring imports for the first three months of 2020 declined 23%. Year-over-year, U.S. imports of hardwood flooring in March were down 20%.
