Robbins Sports Surfaces (Cincinnati) is celebrating its 100th anniversary of its manufacturing plant in White Lake, Wis., and has released a video to commemorate the occasion.
Today the plant manufactures sustainably harvested hardwood flooring used by NBA teams and NCAA teams, as well as by world-class athletes at the Olympics and Olympic training centers.
The plant was built a century ago by the Yawkey-Bissell Lumber Company. They constructed dummy line railroads to the timber and stored the logs in White Lake until it was time to saw the wood into lumber. The mill helped establish the town and provide employment for generations of employees.
“Robbins has been really important to this community over the years,” said Robbins Vice President of Manufacturing John Williams in a statement. “Many of the homes were actually built by the company years ago. It has just been a tremendous impact on the overall development of this community and area.”
