The National Fire Protection Association is updating its Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust with new requirements for performing dust hazard analysis (DHA) for existing processes and facilities.
The deadline to meet the new DHA standard, NFPA 652, is Sept. 7.
The update requires the DHA be reviewed and updated every five years. It also requires the owners and operators of a facility be responsible for the standard, and that the DHA be performed or led by a “qualified person,” according to Woodworking Network.
“This updated edition of NFPA 652 is essential to manage the dust-related fire, flash fire, and explosion hazards in industries that use dust collection and handling equipment, or that have processes that may generate combustible dust,” NFPA said in a statement.
NFPA 652 serves the wood processing industry, as well as the chemical, metals and agricultural industries.
