Fred Timberlin, manager of Wood Pro Inc.'s Albany, N.Y., branch, recently had a flooring delivery with an unexpected twist.
He received a call from a builder to deliver a load of hardwood flooring to a recently sold existing home; the builder said he didn't believe any other trades would be working there, so he would leave a key hidden on site. The next morning, the delivery was made. Later, the builder called Timberlin to see if the driver had any problems at the site. When Timberlin called his employee, the driver said he had been surprised to find someone in the kitchen doing work on a laptop, with a sleeping bag on the floor. When the driver said he was there to make a flooring delivery, the person had explained he was the nephew of the homeowner, and he was there doing work to help speed things up. The driver then started unloading the flooring, and the nephew helped unload the whole order. After hearing this, the builder told Timberlin that there were numerous police cars on site, and they needed to speak to the driver ASAP. Apparently, the "nephew" was a burglar sought by the police for theft of a BMW, as well as local home burglaries. The driver ended up going to a lineup to identify his "helper."
