This issue's tip is from Dan Auld of Integrity Flooring in Hudson, Wis.
This idea came to me when I had a stair tread with a squeak after it was installed. I let the adhesive set for a day, and it did not go away. I wanted to take the tread off without damaging it so I could re-install it and check the stringers. That's when I saw the flooring jack on the upper level, where the guys were installing the rest of the floor, and bingo! Ten minutes later, after a couple of screws through the stringer into the stud and a re-installed tread, we had a stairway without any squeaks.
