We have been been staining our floors the same way for decades - lambswool/cut in brush to apply, buffer to remove field/rags on edges.

We've recently begun to use carpet pads to buff our stain on/off. So far, it's been great. It's much quicker, stain goes further, less costly (no more lambwools, less mineral spirits, no more white pads, less rags, etc...), color is same as hand applying/wiping. We use Duraseal quick coat + duraseal waterborne poly

I'm wondering if anyone has experienced any negative effects of using this process?

How careful do you need to be about using old carpets with possible contaminants?

How about new carpets and these stain blocker type chemicals they're infused with?

Any waterborne finish bonding issues?
