The U.N. General Assembly has declared March 21 International Day of Forests. The first of the global annual awareness days will be on Thursday of next week.
Much like Arbor Day in the U.S., the Day of Forests is meant to "celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests and trees outside forests," according to the U.N. resolution. The U.N. suggested all member states present and promote activities that support forests, including tree-planting campaigns.
