The National Wood Flooring Association held an Intermediate Sand & Finish school at its training facility connected to the association’s offices in Chesterfield, Mo., just outside of St. Louis, from July 20–July 23.
Students at the four-day school, led by NWFA Regional Instructor Jon Namba of Namba Services Inc. (Salt Lake City), received hands-on training for sanding and finishing, including how to sand different species of wood flooring, correct use and maintenance of tools, repairing and recoating existing floors, and techniques such as hand-scraping.
Student Kevin Peterjohn of Rust-Oleum Corporation said he’ll be more successful at his job with the skills and disciplines he learned at the school.
"The NWFA is a top-notch organization, and needless to say truly professional,” he said. “[Intermediate Sand + Finish training] was exactly what I needed, being new to Rust-Oleum, and really getting to know how important floor preparation is as far as the final finish results are concerned.”
