A couple living in a high-end apartment in West Kensington, London, have been awarded damages after suing their upstairs neighbors over “unbearable” noise coming from their wood flooring, Metro reported.
The lawsuit claimed that the upstairs neighbors had removed their carpet and replaced it with wood flooring, and that the resulting sounds from below were “torture.” They argued that a floating acoustic barrier had been incorrectly installed. The judge agreed, calling the acoustic barrier “no better than a piece of plywood across the floor,” and awarded the plaintiffs more than $20,000 in compensation. The defendants will also have to pay a “substantial” portion of the lawyers’ bills for the case, according to Metro.
