An 83-year-old woman died after falling through rotted floorboards into a well shaft that had been covered up in a century-old home in Salem, S.C., Fox Carolina reported.
The woman had been walking across the kitchen of the 1920 home when the flooring gave way over an approximately 50-foot well. The woman had been helping her daughter move from the house at the time. The owner of the home reportedly did not know the well was there.
It took rescuers almost four hours to retrieve the woman’s body from the well, after which a coroner determined she died from her injuries from the fall; her death was ruled accidental.
