Allegheny Wood Products Sued By Employee After ‘Sudden’ Shutdown

Allegheny Wood Products, which ceased operations Feb. 23, is being sued for allegedly failing to give proper notice to the more than 850 employees it terminated the same day, The Intermountain reported.

The company’s closure, called “very sudden and unfortunate” by West Virginia’s State Economic Development Secretary Mitch Carmichael, impacted eight locations across West Virginia.

The lawsuit was filed by a former employee, who is seeking class-action status with unspecified damages and civil penalties, according to The Intermountain.

The lawsuit claims AWP violated the WARN Act, which requires a 60-day notice for laid off employees if the company has a minimum of 100 full-time workers.

AWP was founded in 1973 and was a major supplier for hardwood flooring producers, including AHF Products.
