Ohio Flooring Installer Charged with Burglary, Theft for Stealing From a Job

A Toledo, Ohio, flooring installer is facing burglary and theft charges on allegations he stole $5,000 in cash and jewelry from a home where he was installing flooring in Perkins Township.

Aaron L. Short, 29, was an employee with a company contracted to install flooring. He faces one second-degree felony count of burglary and one fifth-degree count of theft, according to the Perkins Township Police Department.

Short allegedly admitted to pawning the jewelry and using the cash to purchase drugs, Perkins police told the Sandusky Register.

At a preliminary hearing Aug. 27, Short pleaded not guilty to the charges. He is being held in jail under a $25,000 bond.

Perkins police released a statement recommending thoroughly vetting companies before the job and being home while they are doing the work to avoid theft. They also recommend locking up any valuables.
