Beck Fastener Group, an Austrian manufacturer, has developed nails from compressed beech wood that can be used in a nail gun, Core77 reports. The company states they are the first collated nails made of wood.
The Lingloc wooden nails are 2–2½ inches, and when fired from a pneumatic nail gun into wood, they’re held in place via “lignin welding,” wherein the heat from the friction helps form “an inseparable bond with the timber,” the company states on its website.
The wooden nails have a similar tensile strength compared with aluminum nails, the company adds, and no pre-drilling is required.
