43 NWFA Members Earn Degrees at 2015 Wood Flooring Expo

Modern Re-Do Transforms Austin Home With Ipé Flooring
There once was a single-story duplex at the corner of E. 39th Street and Avenue G in Austin's Hyde Park neighborhood. Modest ferns and bushes sat at most every corner of the home's profile; a lone tree shaded its southern-most corner. Between the flanking greenery were the home's industrial steel-encased windows with 20 sashes each, the type that frequently graces old factories but were also common in homes built in the '50s. Throughout the interior, dark and damaged pecan flooring, nondescript baseboard, and cornice ran everywhere; rigid walls, hallways and doors delineated every one of the home's areas, resulting in a cramped atmosphere. All of this changed, however, when architect Kevin Alter and floor man Darrell Black got a hold of the duplex and transformed it into a single-family home that mediates the battle between modern architecture and the historic architecture for which Hyde Park is known.Architect: Alter Studio Architects LLP (Austin, Texas)
NWFA Recognizes Members for Excellence at Awards Luncheon
The National Wood Flooring Association's (NWFA) degree program was started 16 years ago to recognize members for serving the industry and continuing education. Over the years, the association has given 730 degrees, and during its Wood Flooring Expo in Orlando, Fla., on Wednesday, it increased that total by 51. Harold Reid, NWFA Founding Father, Dies at 95
John Harold Reid, who helped establish the National Wood Flooring Association in December 1985 and led installation firm Trinity Floor Company (Dallas) as owner and president, passed away Feb. 5 after experiencing a stroke; he was 95.
