The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) awarded Chester, Pa.-based Smith Flooring with the 2019 Diverse Business of the Year Award.
The distinction honors companies that have established exceptional programs dedicated to expanding the diversity of the construction industry.
Smith Flooring, a commercial flooring company, has been committed to employing individuals from underserved communities, according to AGC. The company also developed a workshop called “Smith Shop” that provides students, emerging professionals and community members an opportunity “to become tomorrow’s building leaders.”
“Diversity and inclusion is about much more than just hiring different people,” AGC President Dirk Elsperman stated. “It is about creating a new mindset and a new culture within your firms.”
Smith Flooring was honored at AGC’s annual convention in Las Vegas earlier this month.
