Only 11 states and the District of Columbia saw increases in construction employment in August compared with February 2020.
The Delta variant also caused delays and affected workers in August, as construction employment decreased in 22 states compared with July, according to AGC. Twenty-five states reported increases, and three states were unchanged compared with July.
“More than half of the respondents in our latest workforce survey reported experiencing projects that have been canceled, postponed, or scaled back,” AGC Chief Economist Ken Simonson said in a statement.
