Horizon Forest Products (Raleigh, N.C.) held an NWFA Distributor Intermediate School March 15-17 in Raleigh. Thirty-two students from 13 floor contracting companies attended the three-day school. Smith Flooring Inc. (Mountain View, Mo.) has restructured its management team to account for the void left by Van Smith when he passed away last year. Mohawk Industries has named Bob Leahy senior vice president-hard surfaces for its Residential Strategic Business Unit. He is responsible for the overall business of Mohawk-brand hard surfaces residential products.
Clarke American Sanders (Springdale, Ark.) has hired David Leibach as sander specialist in the Northeast region. Leibach has about 30 years of wood flooring experience and was most recently employed as branch manager at Wood Pro Inc.
Columbia Flooring (Danville, Va.) has added Steven Abels as sales manager-national accounts. Abels comes to Columbia from Milliken and Company, and he is responsible for developing retail-cooperative and national account business. The company has also hired Joanna Beckman as creative services manager and Erica Poteat as marketing services coordinator.
The Hardwood Manufacturers Association (HMA) (Pittsburgh) has elected Charlie Netterville of Fred Netterville Lumber Co. (Woodville, Miss.) president of the HMA. New home sales declined 10.5 percent in February but remained above the million-unit mark at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.08 million, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.
