Manufacturer News Cikel America LLC (Miami) was given the Environmental Excellence Award by the International Wood Products Association (Alexandria, Va.) during the group's Annual Convention in Miami on April 29. Cikel was recognized for donating 22,000 lineal feet of cumaru exterior cladding and 1,350 square feet of ipé flooring (both FSC-certified) to Studio 804, a design/build program at the University of Kansas School of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Southern Tile will service Gentry from its locations in Norfolk, Va., and Richmond, Va.,; while CDC will do so from its seven locations in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan.

Leitz Tooling Systems (Grand Rapids, Mich.) has named Jasna Serventi regional sales manager for the company's Western region. Serventi brings with him over 40 years' experience in the tooling industry.
Horizon Forest Products (Raleigh, N.C.) and Long Floor (Chesapeake, Va.) have added Branden Cutler to its inside sales team. Cutler will be responsible for handling counter and phone sales, ensuring overall customer satisfaction, and building and maintaining customer relationships.

Tradeshow News Domotex Middle East took place May 10-12 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The show was held concurrently with a tradeshow for roller shutters, doors, gates and sun-protection systems; together the events drew 4,860 attendees and 225 exhibitors from 34 countries.In Memoriam Don Christy, president of Wichita, Kan.-based General Distributors Inc., passed away May 22; he was 60. Don had been battling multiple myeloma, a bone marrow cancer. Don worked at General Distributors for more than 40 years; he began his career in the warehouse while still in college. About the time he started that job, Don was befriended by the NWFA's Don Conner. "Don was the kind of guy that was always there when you needed him, he gave more than he took, and he was a great dad, husband and friend," Conner said. Tracy Crossman, operations manager at General Distributors, said, "Don was a wonderful man; he touched many lives. We've been contacting dealers that have dealt with him closely over the years and everyone has nothing but good words to say about him."

Charitable Opportunities Catholic Charities Operation Helping Hands (New Orleans) brings together volunteers from across the country to help rebuild homes devastated by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The charity has gutted about 2,000 homes since 2005, and it is on track to renovate 72 homes in 2010. The organization is seeking materials donations for its rebuilding efforts in New Orleans.
