The National Wood Flooring Association announced the winners of its Wood Floor of the Year contest during its convention in San Diego the last week of April, but that isn't the only contest in the world that recognizes gorgeous wood floors. The Aussies have their own competition for floors from Down Under; their winners were announced at the Australian Timber Flooring Association (ATFA)'s convention earlier this year. (The event is sponsored by Boral Timber). Winners of the AFTA 2011 Floor of the Year contest were:
Residential, Prefinished: A European engineered oak floor by Market Timbers (Victoria).
Residential, Prefinished (Runner Up): A strand-woven bamboo floor by Queensland Timber Flooring (Queensland).
Commercial, Site-Installed: A recycled blackbutt floor by Awesome Timber Floors (Queensland).
Commercial, Site-Installed (Runner Up): An ironbark floor by Cork & Parquetry Specialists (Victoria).
Residential, Site-Installed (joint winner): A parquet of American white oak and American walnut by Northern Suburbs Timber Flooring (Queensland).
Residential, Site Installed (joint winner): A blackbutt floor by Queensland Timber Flooring (Queensland).
