North American Sustainable Forestry Overview Available

As specifiers increasingly focus on green building and finish materials, The Wood Products Council, a cooperative of major wood associations and research organizations in North America, has released an information sheet on sustainable forestry. The document provides overviews on certified forestry, including Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), American Tree Farm System (ATFS), Canadian Standards Association's Sustainable Forest Management Standard (CSA), and Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). Modern harvesting techniques are also discussed, including silviculture-harvesting that mimics natural forest cycles-thinning and clearcutting.
