Consumers put a lot of stock into what is published by Consumer Reports, the non-profit group dedicated to helping buyers distinguish "hype from fact and good products from bad ones." So it's important to know that Consumer Reports recently published guidelines on installing flooring. The guidelines cover wood (solid and engineered), bamboo, plastic laminate, vinyl and linoleum flooring. The guidelines begin from the purchase point and end with installation (with no mention of sanding and finishing unfinished flooring).
In a separate article, Consumer Reports listed wood flooring as one of its ways to boost home value, "with oak playing a starring role." Consumer Reports noted that Bruce's Dundee Plank Natural prefinished oak flooring scored "Excellent" for wear in its flooring tests.
