Denver Dustless Takes Home Top Wood Floor of the Year Honors

(Photo courtesy David Stluka Photography)Wood Floor of the Year newcomer Denver Dustless (Denver, Colo.) took home top honors in the National Wood Flooring Association's 2013 Wood Floor of the Year contest, winning both the Best Residential category and the sought-after Members' Choice award.

The winners were revealed today at the Awards Luncheon at the NWFA Wood Flooring Expo in Dallas. HGTV personalities "Cousins on Call" were the celebrity hosts for the event. Voting for all but the Designers' Choice award took place by members online before the show.

"I really appreciate everybody voting for me," said Denver Dustless's Mark Sutton. "It was kind of a labor of love project … It's something I drew on paper a long time ago and always wanted to do."

Russian company Yantarnaya Pryad-Parquet (Khimki, Russia), a Wood Floor of the Year veteran, brought its trophy total to six by earning two more awards, while Wood Floor of the Year all-time frontrunner DM Hardwood Designs (Farmington, N.M.) increased its all-time Wood Floor of the Year trophy total to 19.

Members' Choice & Best Residential: Denver Dustless

This solid, nail-down "wood pile" is made of 18 species, including bamboo, bloodwood and lyptus, along with maple. The border is oak.

 

Best Restoration: Yantarnaya Pryad-Parquet

Yantarnaya Pryad-Parquet's 2,000-square-foot, solid, glue-down parquet floor is located in Russia, the company's home country. It features 11 species of wood: maple, oak, wenge, sapele, cherry, pear, jatoba, palo santo, merbau, kempas and pau amarelo.

 

Best CNC/Laser Cut: Yantarnaya Pryad-Parquet

This 5,330 square-foot parquet is made of 10 species of wood coated with a waterborne finish.

 

Best Reclaimed: Schenck & Company

This 3,029-square-foot floor is made from reclaimed random-width shipping pallets. The planks were nailed down and given a wax finish.

 

Best Manufacturer Factory Finish: W•D Flooring

W•D Flooring's 7,800-square-foot herringbone floor is made from 5-inch-wide black ash with a manufacturer finish of matte hardwax oil.

 

Best Limited Species: Czar Floors

Czar Floors hand-scrolled this maple floor on-site to embed the Karelian birch in the 100-square-foot area.

 

Best Extreme Makeover: DM Hardwood Designs

DM Hardwood's intricate nailed-down medallion features a complex custom inlay including many species of wood.

 

Best Commercial: Gaetano Hardwood Floors Inc.

This 3,000-square-foot, solid, nail-down commercial floor features Indian rosewood, wenge, quartersawn maple and Brazilian cherry.

 

Designers' Choice: Natural Wood Floors & Design

Natural Wood Floors & Design's solid wood staircase is comprised of walnut with a waterborne finish.
