Construction spending during April 2013 rose 4.3 percent from April 2012 to $860.8 billion, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce. This is a 0.4 percent increase from March 2013.
The rate of private construction increased 1.0 percent from March to $602.0 billion, with residential construction down 0.1 percent to $301.9 billion. Nonresidential construction rose 2.2 percent to $300.1 billion.
Public construction fell 1.2 percent from March to $258.8 billion, with educational construction down 4.4 percent to $58.7 billion.
