Construction Spending Up Slightly in July

Construction spending during July 2013 reached a rate of $900.8 billion, which is 0.6 percent above June's estimate of $895.7 billion, according to the Department of Commerce. The July figure is 5.2 percent above the rate for July 2012.

In private construction, spending increased 0.9 percent from June to $631.4 billion. Residential construction spending rose 0.6 percent to $334.6 billion, and nonresidential rose 1.3 percent to $296.8 billion.

Public construction spending fell 0.3 percent to $269.4 billion, with educational construction 1.5 percent below June at $62.9 billion.
