UK Burglar Steals Carpeting, Has it Installed Five Doors Down

Here's yet another reason to prefer wood flooring instead of carpeting: It's not prone to walk out the door with a burglar. According to a story in the Daily Mail, that's exactly what happened last summer near the North Sea town of Lowestoft in the U.K. According to the Mail, 26-year-old Shaine Preston pulled up the carpeting and underlayment in his neighbor's home and had an accomplice install it on the stairs and landing of his own home, only five doors down the street. Preston was recently sentenced to 12 months in jail after admitting to the burglary.
