The new field house at Milwaukee-area Waukesha North High School opened last week after an estimated $3 million in repairs were made following a fire caused by the inappropriate storage of oily rags during installation of the wood sports floor, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
The fire broke out on Aug. 1 as construction was nearly complete. Crews had to replace 1,800 square feet of wood flooring in the field house, repaint the ceilings and clean the HVAC system. Crews also had to fix smoke damage throughout the rest of the school.
North Superintendent Todd Gray told Waukesha Now the installer's insurance company and school district's insurance will combine to cover the expense.
