The Fortifiber Building Systems Group recently announced new milestones in its commitment to environmentally sustainable practices in its manufacturing operations.
From 2008 to 2012, the manufacturer says it reduced natural gas usage by 26 percent and electrical usage by 30 percent per square foot produced. In 2013, the company cut waste output by 265 tons, with over 65 tons of paper going to local recyclers.
"Fortifiber's environmental commitment goes beyond our product line to how we do business every day," Chris Yount, Fortifiber president, said in a statement. "We have strategically located our plants and distribution facilities to be no further than 500 miles from 60 percent of housing starts in the United States. This affords the opportunity to cut carbon emissions from transportation while speeding our delivery times."
