Award Hardwood Floors LLP (Wausau, Wis.) closed its doors Nov. 15 after 16 years in business, leaving its 22 employees without jobs, according to the Wausau Daily Herald.
Award opened in 1997, manufacturing prefinished floating floors. At its peak in 2003, the company employed 142 workers, manufacturing 128 designs of prefinished hardwood flooring from nine species for independent retailers and private labels for home centers like Home Depot and Menards, the Daily Herald reported.
"I know they've fallen on some hard times," Wausau Mayor Jim Tipple told the Herald. "Any business that's tied to the building industry has its ebbs and flows. They apparently were a casualty. That's never good news for the city."
Award's CEO was not available for comment at press time.
