In order to verify environmental claims about forestry products, the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is teaming up with the USDA's Forest Products Lab (FPL) to test composite wood and paper products for fibers from endangered species or genetically modified organisms, according to BuildingGreen.com.
While Brad Kahn, communications director for FSC-US told BuildingGreen there is no reason to suspect FPL will find anything out of the ordinary, he added, "we want to make sure we are keeping our system as rigorous and credible as possible."
FSC plans to publish its findings, according to Kahn, unlike large companies that already do their own testing.
