The U.S. Green Building Council and the American Chemistry Council have made peace.
The two organizations were previously at odds due to a LEED credit that encouraged builders to avoid "chemicals of concern." Now they have announced an agreement to work together on the LEED program.
The USGBC statement noted how chemistry-based plastic building materials have "saved 467.2 trillion BTUs of energy" compared with alternative construction materials.
"By combining USGBC, a leader of the green building movement, with the scientific know-how of ACC, we can develop a path to stronger, science-based standards that achieve measurable progress in sustainability," ACC President Cal Dooley said in a statement.
