The NWFA hosted an Advanced Sand & Finish school Sept. 16–19 at its headquarters in Chesterfield, Mo., outside St. Louis.
The school's participants learned how to sand multi-directional floors, perfect the scratch pattern, use colorants, dyes and pigments, French bleed, sand hand-sculpted floors, retrofit existing strip floors with a hand-scrape plank look and, finally, achieve the perfect finish. The students practiced the techniques on a white oak chevron-patterned floor with a soldier-stacked "jungle wood' border. There was also an end-grain floor made from white oak and douglas fir in the training room.
The school took place a week after the NWFA hosted an Advanced Installation school (have you seen the video?).
