Commercial logging of natural forests in “key zones” will end and state plantations will reduce plantation harvest yields by 20 percent by 2020, according to Xinhua.
The goals are an expansion of a pilot program that was announced last April and sought to end commercial logging in areas of China’s Heilongjiang Province’s natural forests.
China has 4,855 state forest farms and about 87 “key forest zones” to supply logs, according to Xinhua.
Forested areas will also be increased by 16.6 million acres.
