The renovation of the 4,000-square-foot Firestone Building, where Firestone Tire and Rubber outfitted automobiles in the 1930s, was completed last summer and recently received an Honorable Mention for Adaptive Reuse from the Florida Trust for Historic Recognition, given in part because Goodwin was able to complement the original flooring.
Its River-Recovered heart pine surrounds a rectangle of pine flooring reclaimed from the original building. In the center of the reclaimed pine is a fan-shaped medallion that copies the shape of an industrial fan displayed on a nearby wall.
