Pioneer Millworks (Farmington, N.Y.), which began manufacturing products from old wood 25 years ago, received a Forest Stewardship Council Leadership Award during Greenbuild on Nov. 18 for its commitment to responsible forest management.
To date, the company has reused almost 25 million board feet of old wood, the company said in a statement. Pioneer Millworks holds an FSC Chain of Custody certification in three categories for its wood products: recycled, mixed and pure.
“While our reclaimed wood is prized for its history, character, tight grain patterns, and deep patina, our customers—designers, architects and homeowners—join us in protecting the environment by choosing companies like ours that embrace third-party certification, high environmental standards and responsible business practices,” said Jennifer Young, Pioneer Millworks general manager, in a statement.
Pioneer Millworks says it was one of the first companies to become FSC-certified in recycled wood more than eight years ago.
